Supload's idea to challenge Imgur with Bitcoin is very ambitious

Image hosting is one of the latest applications to improve Bitcoin, thanks to the one-month-old Supload. It is reported that the Supload service will share the website advertising revenue with its users in the form of Bitcoin payment. Bitcoin.com contacted Supload co-founder Mike Reilly, who recently announced that his website has paid nearly 2 BTC in advertising fees to thousands of users around the world, notably, many of whom are new to Bitcoin.

What is Supload?

Supload is a new image hosting service that is very similar to the popular website Imgur. Supload allows users to upload photos, such as memes and animated gifs, and its hosting is also free. Users can then share or insert links to the images on social media sites such as Reddit and Facebook.

The biggest difference from other services is that Supload pays 50% of the website's advertising revenue to its users, and according to the settings, users can only withdraw money when they have $1 or more in their accounts. According to the website, once users earn more than this amount, they can withdraw money in Bitcoin at any time.

Since the expenditures for this service are usually very small, using traditional payment services (such as Paypal) would make the business model unsustainable. The potential of Bitcoin for small payments prompted Reilly to build this website. He told reporters:

“We believe Bitcoin gives us the ability to instantly pay content creators around the world with minimal fees.”

New users of Bitcoin

Supload has seen a lot of support in its first month of operation. "We've had about 2,000 users since we launched the service a few weeks ago," Reilly said, "and about 70% of them are active."

As the site's users and new features continued to grow, Supload began to spread on social media through image marketing, and this tactic has helped them find new users.

Reddit user "ttwtf12" commented:

"Amazing site, it's what got me into Bitcoin, I was confused about how Bitcoin worked and was hesitant to get into it but this site lets you earn some Bitcoin and then you can figure out how it works."

Although Supload provides half of the advertising fees to users, the gap between it and other image hosting service websites is still large. Imgur is currently the world's largest image hosting website. According to the website statistics service Quantcast, Imgur currently has 79.7 million unique visitors and 2.6 billion page views per month, ranking Imgur 50th in the world's most popular website rankings.

It remains to be seen how many people in the image hosting market with tens of millions of users will be willing to choose Supload. But at least some of them will be attracted by it and exposed to Bitcoin. Who knows, maybe Imgur will also adopt cryptocurrency to share revenue with its users.

Future plans for supload

Reilly and his partners created the service Supload and are also helping Bitcoin grow. "The future of the site will be focused on one goal," Reilly explained. "Our goal from the beginning was to make it easier for users to earn Bitcoin through the things they do on the Internet," he revealed.

In addition, Reilly has planned various updates to the site, including more monetization features. "The site will also add social features, and we will reward users with some bitcoin after they complete activities," he said.

“Right now, we’re only working on image monetization, but in the coming months we’ll be focusing on broader content monetization, such as files, videos, and several other options.”
