UFC is just one step away from accepting Bitcoin?

Joe Rogan, UFC commentator and host of the Joe Rogan Experience, said on Twitter that if UFC featherweight champion Conor Mcgregor can keep winning, he can push the UFC to accept Bitcoin.

Conor McGregor, arguably the most dazzling star in UFC history, has been the most watched and sold out tickets for the past few years. McGregor's last fight with former Brazilian champion Jose Aldo had a total prize money of $8 million, surpassing the record for per-second earnings set by Ronda Rousey, who knocked out her opponent in 13 seconds.

On March 5, McGregor's highly anticipated fight with Rafael dos Anjos will be the most important lightweight event in UFC history.

Because of McGregor’s popularity and fighting record in the UFC, billionaire and UFC Chairman/CEO Lorenzo Fertitta spoke directly to McGregor, offering him a premium pay-per-view deal.

Benefits to the UFC

In addition to cable TV, UFC also provides pay-per-view methods including Google Play Store, Apple App Store, UFC TV, etc. It is reported that UFC may integrate Bitcoin payment methods into the UFC TV platform, allowing international users to pay with Bitcoin.

Due to the limitations of traditional financial networks, it is often difficult for many users to purchase or subscribe to UFC TV. For example, in South Korea, due to the requirements of Shinhan Bank Group, users will automatically download another application and transfer to this application before completing transactions on the UFC.TV platform, which makes users' pay-per-view more troublesome.

Redirects from servers and financial applications often result in a technical glitch that prevents users from completing transactions on their platforms.

Furthermore, the UFC could also benefit if it accepts Bitcoin for its ticket sales. According to UFCVIPExperience (the official ticketing website), VIP tickets for UFC events can cost up to $10,000, while basic tickets are around $60.

Compared to traditional payment tools (such as credit cards and bank wires), Bitcoin has the advantage of lower transaction fees, which can save users and UFC about 4% in costs.

Former UFC champion Jon Fitch said he has embraced cryptocurrencies as a form of income, including Bitcoin.

“After the 2008 financial crash, I was left with $180,000 for my apartment in San Jose, and I didn’t want that to happen again. So I started to embrace cryptocurrency, and now I see all the possible uses for it, especially with the blockchain technology behind it,” Fitch said.
