Bitcoin mining company BitFury sued by former CFO

Mikhail Golomb, the former chief financial officer (CFO) of bitcoin mining giant BitFury, has sued the company, according to court documents obtained by CoinDesk.

Columbus first sued BitFury in California Superior Court in April, alleging he was unfairly fired by the company so BitFury could avoid giving him a 2% equity compensation.

According to court documents, BitFury is currently valued at more than 5亿美元, meaning the stake is potentially worth 1000万美元.

Additionally, Columbus claims that he was deprived of bonuses, severance pay, and pay for unused vacation time by BitFury. The former CFO, who received a total salary of $240,000 during his tenure, is seeking a jury trial for up to $10,000 in damages and attorney fees as a result of BitFury’s alleged violations of contract law and California labor law.

The filing contents are as follows:

"During the period when the plaintiff was employed by the defendant, the plaintiff required the defendant to perform the labor contract and pay the plaintiff necessary equity grants. The defendant retaliated by terminating the plaintiff's employment in order to avoid fulfilling its obligations under the labor contract."

According to court documents, during his tenure, Columbus served as a member of BitFury’s board of directors and also served as head of BitFury’s San Francisco office.

However, BitFury maintains that Columbus was not a satisfactory employee during his time at the company, claiming that he was fired for “abuse of employees” and “fraudulent behavior.” According to BitFury’s filing, Columbus is also involved in a separate divorce lawsuit.

In June, BitFury challenged the lawsuit through its law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.

“As a company, we intend to vigorously pursue this case, which we believe is without merit,” BitFury legal counsel Varun Gupta told reporters.

It is reported that the next hearing in this case will be held at 9:30 am on December 30.
