A case of fraud using the sale of "Bitcoin mining machines" was finally solved, and the victim's economic losses of 90,000 yuan were fully recovered.

A Bitcoin mining machine is a professional computer used to earn Bitcoins. Its working principle is that individual users download software on their computers to run a specific algorithm and obtain the corresponding Bitcoins after communicating with a remote server. However, due to the low awareness of Bitcoins and mining machines in China and the lack of supervision in circulation, they are easily used by criminals to commit fraud and other crimes.

On May 2, 2015, the police officers of Dongjiang Police Station received a call from Liaoning Province in the duty room, stating that a person had been defrauded of more than 90,000 yuan at a logistics company in Luowei Community, Dongjiang Street, and requested the public security organs to solve the case.

After a preliminary investigation, the police got the basic situation of the case. At the end of April 2015, the victim, Ms. Xiao, met a man named "Snobbish" in a QQ group. The man claimed that he had a batch of "Bitcoin mining machines" for sale at a low price and good quality. Ms. Xiao quickly made an appointment with "Snobbish" online to buy the mining machines at a price of 1,100 yuan per unit. After the contract was negotiated, "Snobbish" told Ms. Xiao that the actual owner of the "Bitcoin mining machines" was He from Zixing, and he was just a middleman for He. Since Ms. Xiao was in Liaoning and could not inspect the goods on site, on May 2, 2015, Ms. Xiao entrusted a friend to go to Qingyao Town, Zixing City to inspect the goods with "Snobbish" and transported 85 boxes of mining machine electronic assembly parts to a logistics company in Dongjiang Street. Witnessed by Ms. Xiao's friend, "Snobbish" filled out the delivery note in accordance with the agreed requirements of both parties and called Ms. Xiao to inform her that the relevant matters had been completed. Ms. Xiao believed that the goods had arrived at the logistics company and there should be no more accidents, so she readily transferred the entire payment of more than 90,000 yuan to "Snobbish"'s account.

Unexpectedly, when Ms. Xiao checked the logistics information the next afternoon, she unexpectedly found that the goods could not be found at all. Ms. Xiao immediately called the logistics company to inquire, but was told that the goods had been picked up by others in the early morning. The "snobbish" phone could no longer be connected, so she reported the case to the Dongjiang Police Station.

After receiving the alarm, the police from Dongjiang Police Station immediately launched an investigation. They found that the person who took away the goods that morning was actually the person who delivered the goods, “Snobbish” himself. Through tracking the vehicle that picked up the goods and clues provided by the victim, the police finally confirmed that “Snobbish” was from Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, and worked in a company in Shenzhen. The police station immediately launched a pursuit and arrested him.

But at this time, Wu Moufeng seemed to have disappeared from the face of the earth, and there was no trace of him anywhere. The case came to a standstill. However, the police still did not give up and actively searched for all clues related to Wu Moufeng. In late June 2015, the victim, Ms. Xiao, called the police again and told them that a man who claimed to be Wu Moufeng's uncle had contacted Ms. Xiao.

The police immediately grasped this key clue and took the initiative to contact a person who claimed to be Wu Moufeng's uncle, gradually getting closer to Uncle Wu and asking about Wu Moufeng's recent situation. Uncle Wu finally took the initiative to bring Wu Moufeng to the police station to surrender in the near future.

On November 11, 2015, Wu Moufeng took the initiative to surrender to the Dongjiang Police Station. It turned out that Wu Moufeng, who was blinded by greed, had reached a transaction contract with many people through the QQ group for this batch of "Bitcoin mining machines". However, because the buyers did not receive the goods, they delayed payment. When he received the payment from Ms. Xiao, he immediately decided to send the goods to other owners to make a profit again, and tried to disappear from Ms. Xiao to evade responsibility, but he was caught by the police with key evidence.
