JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is bearish on Bitcoin

The CEO of JPMorgan Chase recently refuted the argument that Bitcoin has long-term potential at the World Fortune Forum, arguing that people's efforts in digital currencies (such as Bitcoin) are a waste of time.

He added:

This is my personal opinion, there can be no truly uncontrolled currency in the world. Without the support of the government, it will not exist for long. No currency can escape the control of the government.

But Dimon believes that the underlying protocol of Bitcoin, blockchain technology, will have a bright future: " This technology will be used and even used to issue currency, but this currency is the US dollar. "

Dimon concluded by referring to a discussion on Bitcoin and blockchain at the Barclays Global Financial Services Conference in September .

While JPMorgan is cautious and even a Bitcoin skeptic it recently launched a partnership with distributed ledger startup R3CEV it is optimistic about the potential uses of Bitcoin’s blockchain technology .

In his annual letter to JPMorgan shareholders in April , Dimon said his bank could learn from disrupting payment systems.

You all know about Bitcoin, where merchants can build their own networks. Payments is a key part of our business we’re very good at it. But there’s still a lot to learn about this real-time system. Customers want better encryption and lower costs.

Dimon is not the only one who is optimistic about blockchain technology. More and more banking experts and mainstream financiers are optimistic about blockchain technology . For example, Blythe Masters, the mother of CDS , left JPMorgan Chase in March this year to head Digital Assets Holdings, a Bitcoin startup .
