Yale boy: Personal computers collectively mine for charity

How to use technology to improve human life? Not everyone is lucky. There are still many places in the world where people lack the most basic food, housing, medical care, education and more basic living guarantees. Many people have to work hard day and night in the hope of living a good life.

Many organizations or individuals need financial support when carrying out activities, and they usually raise funds through donations. Every day, there are thousands of online donations and fundraising activities on the Internet, and a considerable number of them use Bitcoin as the main medium for fundraising.

Bitcoin has gradually become an important tool for fundraising due to its advantages such as almost zero transaction fees and convenient cross-border payments. Now, a Boston developer has launched a fundraising campaign for an innovative project. The project leader, 24-year-old Yale University graduate Jacob Evelyn, said that the project is called "Human Computation" and is an online public welfare project.

The original intention of the "Human Computing" project is to guide people to contribute their personal computing power for charity. The contributed computing power will be used for Bitcoin mining. Jacob Evelyn has designed a remote Bitcoin mining program.

It is almost impossible to mine digital virtual currencies, especially Bitcoin, using ordinary personal computers. However, the collective operation of a large number of personal computers may produce different results. Jacob Evelyn said that the remote control program he developed will make it possible for personal computers to collectively operate mining.

Part of the mining revenue will be distributed to some non-profit organization partners. Currently, Human Computing has three non-profit organization partners, namely Pencils of Promise, Watsi and GlobalGiving.
