The foundation of metaphysics is the five elements. No matter Bazi Feng Shui, Qi Men Dun Jia, Tie Ban Shen Shu and so on, they will be expressed by Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, hexagrams and stars, but in the end they all use the Five Elements to generate and restrain each other, so as to determine good and bad luck. In physiognomy, there is also a method of discussing the five elements. The following is a brief description.

Ancient Theory of the Five Elements

Ancient sages used the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth, combined with a person's appearance and skin color, to determine which element a person belonged to, and based on the attributes of the five elements, further determined the person's general character and fortune.

Basic concepts: metal is square, earth is thick, water is fertile, wood is long, and fire is sharp; metal is white, earth is yellow, water is black, wood is green, and fire is red; metal is righteous, earth is trustworthy, water is wise, wood is benevolent, and fire is polite.

One: Real wood shape

Ma Yi said: The wood shape is thin and bony, and looks more slender and majestic. With delicate eyes and eyebrows, you must know that old age is the most important.

Lao Jin added: People with the wood shape have green complexion and a long and narrow face. People of this type are often tall and thin, with upright figures, prominent joints and protruding foreheads. If a person has obviously large joints, or a thin face and a fat body, or is too thin, he or she is not a true wood-shaped person.

Second: True Fire Shape

Ma Yi said: If you want to know the shape of fire, it is wide at the bottom and pointed at the top. His behavior is completely erratic and he has even less beard.

Lao Jin added: People with fire-shaped bodies have ruddy complexion, pointed heads and big chins. People of this type often have a pointed upper face and a wide lower face, an impatient personality, a ruddy complexion, a casual manner, and not much beard on their cheeks.

Three: True Soil Shape

Ma Yi said: He is dignified, profound and peaceful, like Mount Tai. The mind’s intentions are hard to predict, and trust and loyalty are important among people.

Lao Jin added: People with earth-shaped bodies have smooth yellow skin and plump facial features. The body shape is often fat and strong, and the body looks very broad from behind. Dignified and serene, calm and composed, and very strategic.

Four: True Water Shape

Ma Yi said: Thick eyebrows and big eyes mean the city will be round. This appearance is called True Water, and happiness comes naturally throughout life.

Lao Jin added: Water-shaped people have dark complexion, fat and round face, and thick eyebrows and eyes. They are not very tall, but they are fat and broad. When walking, I feel like I want to pounce on someone. This kind of person is very wise and blessed.

Fifth: True Gold Shape

Ma Yi said: The parts should be square, and the three parts should also be square. People with gold-shaped bodies are naturally famous.

Lao Jin added: People with the gold shape have fair complexion and angular faces. This type of people are small and have square bones. However, being too short is called "Jin deficiency", and being too muscular is called "Jin excess".

Question: What is the use of knowing the five elements of a person?

Answer: Theoretically, it can be judged by character and achievements. For example, people with wood shape are kind, people with metal shape are righteous, people with earth shape are trustworthy, people with water shape are wise, and people with fire shape are polite.

Question: In reality, the true five elements are rarely seen. Most are mixed forms. How should we discuss this and which one is more important?
