Bitcoin helps kids overcome depression

Bitcoin helps kids overcome depression

This article is about a father telling his amazing story about how Bitcoin helped his son overcome mental illness.

My son has ADHD (Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, a common mental disorder in childhood). This makes it difficult for him to socialize in real life. Fortunately, he is mature and smart enough to avoid being bullied by his peers in the past few years, but he is still too young and his peers' actions still have an impact on him. His mother and I are always worried that his lack of social skills will cause him to suffer from depression one day.

But to our surprise, we found that online communication has given him a huge boost. Thanks to the Internet, he is able to make many friends online and participate in community activities.

Over the summer, he discovered Bitcoin and, surprisingly, the Bitcoin community has been very friendly to him. Just the other day, after school, he posted a thread on a forum asking about cryptocurrency, and the help he got was amazing.

I spend hours talking to my son about topics like this. Before talking about Bitcoin, I rarely had any topics that interested him, but now, thanks to my economics degree and his interest in Bitcoin, we have more topics to talk about every day after get off work. Almost every day, he tells me about the Bitcoin community, related companies, technological innovations, and of course, the price of Bitcoin.

I can say from personal experience that Bitcoin is a great way for tech-savvy teenagers to learn about financial independence and economics. It's much more important to have a friendly, dedicated platform to learn than forums with support and beginner user sections on multiple topics. Sites like bitcointalk.org look like the wild west to me, there are lots of gold mines and lots of nice people, but you have to put in some effort to find them and avoid the bad guys on the site.

Finally, I figured out what the tl;dr is:

tl;dr: My son has ADHD. The fun technology and open source nature of Bitcoin has helped him become part of a community and part of society, learn to do a lot of cool, productive things, and talk about cool tech in school. It's been a huge confidence boost for the whole family and has brought me closer to him.

This is all really great, thank you everyone.

Hi, everyone, my son has noticed this post. I didn't ask him what he thought about what I posted here. But he was very happy with all the warm replies. With his help, I answered many questions from everyone.
