Paris Bitcoin Fans Offline Event Record

Editor’s Note:
Sosthène is a French Bitcoin enthusiast. At the end of October, he attended a Bitcoin enthusiast gathering called "La Maison du Bitcoin" in Paris, France, where Bitcoin entrepreneurs in Paris introduced their projects. He was glad that he was willing to share the content of this event in Chinese with Bitcoin enthusiasts far away in China.

At the same time, he also introduced us to a newly established Bitcoin information website in France, le coin coin, which will continue to bring news about the Chinese currency circle to French Bitcoin enthusiasts.

Last Wednesday I attended one of those weird gatherings where a lot of Bitcoin enthusiasts got together to discuss their plans, and then they all had pizza, drank beer, and chatted.

The location is "La Maison du Bitcoin", the largest association of Bitcoin enthusiasts in Paris. As soon as I entered, I noticed a bunch of retro soup cans with a sign saying Coinbell's. I asked the guy next to me what they were, and he said it was a new project of "La Maison du Bitcoin". There was a set of Ledger Wallet in those cans, which is a great Bitcoin hardware wallet. There is also an address to send a sum of Bitcoin to people, with the goal of attracting ordinary technology enthusiasts to let them discover what Bitcoin is. There are also several different small gifts, including postcards, hats, T-shirts, etc.

The focus of that night was still the introduction of entrepreneurs. The first person was Yannick Losbar, a very young guy who had already founded a company. That night he introduced Coinizy to everyone. This new platform can realize the exchange of Bitcoin into Canadian dollars at will, and supports online payment with Paypal, Okpay and Western Union. It also provides virtual and real bank cards, which can be used both online and offline, and it is easy to put a sum of Bitcoin in the account. Because it can only be exchanged from Bitcoin to legal currency in one direction, there are very few procedures, which is much less than that of general trading platforms. The entrepreneur believes that ordinary people find it complicated to spend Bitcoin to buy things, which hinders the general use of Bitcoin. He hopes that Coinizy can help popularize Bitcoin.

The second entrepreneur is Antoine Ferron (here is a video of this French guy). He introduced the plan:   Goo chain Citadelle. This plan is not his first. In the past year, he has developed Goochain, which means "Google for the blockchain", with the goal of making it easier for people to search blockchain. Citadelle means Acropolis in French. Goochain Citadelle is a hardware wallet with basic technology very similar to Ledger Nano. It can be said to be a simplified version of Ledger, but much cheaper, with an estimated price of less than 15 euros. Specifically, it is a chip, like a bank card, that can be safely spent and received in Bitcoin when inserted into the USB port of a computer. From a functional point of view, unlike Ledger, Ledger uses a password similar to a bank card, while Citadelle has a second factor authentication, and multi-signature is limited to "2 out of 2", including Greenaddress.

The third entrepreneur is Richard Caetano, who is from California, USA. He came to Paris because he fell in love with a French girl. Stratumn is not a Bitcoin application, but an attempt to improve the function of blockchain. For him, the basic function of blockchain is to automatically and securely record usage information. The purpose of Stratumn can be said to be to securely record the information required by different applications. Although the technology is a bit complicated, Richard gave everyone a simple example to explain: a tic-tac-toe game based on blockchain. Every step of the game is recorded in the blockchain of his personal key. Richard can use the traceability of the blockchain to ensure that all users abide by the rules and prevent cheating.

The last group of entrepreneurs were Ugo Mare and Nicolas Katan. The project they introduced was Bitit, a Bitcoin gift card. Bitit aims to solve the following problem: There are many people who are not familiar with Bitcoin. They don’t know how to buy Bitcoin and don’t know how to use Bitcoin wallets. Bitit allows people to buy Bitcoin with legal currency and then send it to others by email. The whole process only takes a few minutes, which is very convenient. On the day of the event, they only displayed virtual cards. The entrepreneurs said that there will be physical cards in the future. The goal of these two entrepreneurs is also to make Bitcoin more popular.

After the speech, another person came on stage to introduce a new accounting application, called Fred de la Compta ("Fred of Accounting"). He is the first accountant in France who can handle Bitcoin accounting. In the past, few industries accepted Bitcoin because the accounting of the integration of the euro and Bitcoin is very complicated, especially when paying taxes. This application suddenly makes it much more convenient to do business with Bitcoin. Kudos to them!

This kind of event gives you the opportunity to meet interesting people. I met a man who used to work in insurance that day. He gave up his job after learning about Bitcoin. Later, he was busy inventing use cases for Bitcoin and blockchain in the insurance field. His goal is to completely subvert the current insurance industry. He said that he recently had the opportunity to explain to the leaders of a large French insurance company how blockchain and Bitcoin will change their industry. He joked that he had never met so many people who hate him in his life. I also met a young man who now works in a large French bank. At the same time, he and his friends have plans for Bitcoin. They are about to take a plane to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore to contact local Bitcoin entrepreneurs. If I have the opportunity to chat with him again in the future, I can tell everyone what interesting plans our people have with Chinese Bitcoin enthusiasts!
